East Detroit Public Schools is proud to help keep Southeast Michigan lakes, rivers and streams clean and pollution-free. We are part of Macomb County's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Initiative to educate, monitor, record activity and implement control measures to reduce waterhed contamination. Last year our school district mapped and cleaned all storm water catch basins and this year we has begun the process of recording and monitoring outfalls.
You can help us and your environment in keeping contaminates out of storm drains by following a few of these simple steps at home:
* Remember to fertilize sparingly and caringly
* Carefully store and dispose of your household cleaners, chemicals and oils by reading the label
* Remember to clean up after your pet
* Check all gasoline powered vehicles and equipment for leaks
* Choose earth friendly landscaping products
* Save water by watering your lawn at night and only when necessary
